The list of classic movie theaters in Chicago is precariously low. Thankfully, Demetri Kouvalis, the owner of the Patio Theater, re-opened this glorious palace and is making strong headway in its restoration. And, despite Kouvalis’ plans to install a digital projector to be able to show current films (which are increasingly only available digitally), he will keep the 35MM projector to show classic films, such as the director’s cut of Ridley Scott‘s Alien (The Director’s Cut).
The plan is to show Alien (The Director’s Cut) on October 25th at 10 PM. The Patio Theater has begun using Tugg to reach a certain goal of tickets sold before solidly booking a film. As it stands right now, Alien (The Director’s Cut) is very short of its goal of 100 tickets purchased. As someone that wants to see this sort of thing succeed, that’s why I’m writing about it.
How this works is, you buy a ticket (for Alien (The Director’s Cut) it’s $10 per), and, should not enough tickets get sold, your $10 will be refunded. If they reach their goal, success! you’re going to see Alien (The Director’s Cut)!
