Tavernita Mega News: 8/20 Amigos de Pintxo, Sunday Brunch, Specialty Paellas, $1 Oyster Weds., Special Dinners with Tippling Bros.



At Tavernita in Chicago’s River North, Executive Chef/Partner Ryan Poli‘s take on Spanish style cuisine has done gangbuster business since opening this past January, garnering solid critical acclaim and a packed house night after night.  He and his partners at Mercadito Hospitality have a lot of news they want to share with their dining fans and those who have yet to come out.

First up on the list of things to pay particular attention to at Tavernita is the bi-weekly Amigos de Pintxo events.  Held every other Monday in Barcito, the San Sebastian style pintxo bar attached to, but separate from Tavernita, Amigos features a different guest chef (most of the time from Chicago) who comes in and creates a few of their own variations on the popular “stand up and eat” bites of Spain.  This Monday, August 20th, The Publican‘s Chef de Cuisine Brian Huston will join Poli in Barcito.  The price of admission is $25 for all you can eat pintxos and part of the proceeds goes to Common Threads (drinks are additional but incredibly well worth it).

New to Tavernita, Poli and beverage expert Paul Tanguay of Tippling Bros. will collaborate on upcoming meals.  Guest will be able to learn about their favorite spirits and wine while enjoying a Spanish inspired 4-course menu.  The price of the meal is $55 per guest (before tax and gratuity).  Dinners on each date will start at 6:30 PM.  Call 312-274-1111 (reservations required).  The first dinner is this Tuesday, August 21st.  The full details and dates are as follows:

Dec 11th – Warm your insides with a holiday inspired Belvedere Vodka dinner




On Wednesdays, the restaurant features “Buck a Shuck”, $1 oysters at the bar from 5 to 7 PM (only in Tavernita).

In addition, Tavernita has started offering limited specialty paellas, a popular dish from Valencia, to the first 10 tables that order after 10 PM Thursday through Saturday night.  Poli’s paella can feed up to four hungry diners and is priced at $17.  The recipe and ingredients change weekly, so be sure to come back and try a different variation.

Lastly, Tavernita recently began serving brunch every Sunday from 11:30 AM to 3 PM in their dining room.   Brunch menu for Tavernita.

Tavernita‘s brunch menu includes a Brunch Sharing Menu, featuring a choice of four items portioned per table (excluding the raw bar) for $12.50 per guest. Diners can also add a selection of Chef Poli’s flavor-filled pintxos for an extra $4.50, or upgrade to the Ultimate Brunch, which includes a cocktail ($18.50 per guest). Tavernita‘s brunch items are also available a la carte. Highlights include:


    Omelette: Spanish-style tortilla, confit potatoes and arugula salad
    Poached: Jamón Serrano, tomato marmalade, saffron-hollandaise sauce, brioche
    Scrambled: Chilaquiles, salsa, chipotle, and mahon cheese
    Fried: Mushrooms, spinach, pork belly, espelette peppers, and brioche toast


    Crispy churros and chocolate: cinnamon and sugar
    Pancakes: sugar mousse, mixed berries and graham cracker crumble
    Torrejas:  ginger whipped cream, mango, and vanilla sauce
    Fried Chicken & Churros: maple syrup
