Chef Bill Kim already has two beloved restaurants in Urbanbelly (3053 N. California Ave., Chicago, IL 60618) and Belly Shack (1912 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60647) but he’s just announced plans to take over the space formerly occupied by one sixtyblue and dub it Belly Q. Kim and his wife Yvonne Cadiz Kim have teamed up with Cornerstone Restaurant Group and Michael Jordan (good ole number 23!) for Belly Q, which plans to open this spring.
Kim, who spent time at Charlie Trotter’s as Chef de Cuisine as well as at Le Titi de Paris, down scaled when he opened Urbanbelly and Belly Shack, in some people’s eyes. But the gamble proved to pay off and Kim was at the forefront of an emerging move towards clean, sustainable, soul filling food that didn’t ask the consumer to take out a loan on their first born child.
The menu for Belly Q is expected to feature “a flavor palette that’s boldly smoky and brightly piquant, with a depth of flavor that sneaks up on you and leaves you wanting more.” Sounds good to me. I can’t imagine Kim not knocking this one out of the park.
