Tavernita, the Spanish restaurant (with Latin influences), has officially “soft” opened!  It’s been a long time coming (something not foreign in the restaurant world, particularly Chicago’s scene ) but it is here!.  Originally set to open in July, then September and then…well, now (!) Tavernita is now taking reservations for dinner before the restaurant’s official grand opening on January 23rd.  At that point, Barcito, the small pinxtos area of Tavernita (on the premises, but separate from the main room) should be ready to open as well.

Chef Ryan Poli blogged this morning about the ansul system being tripped by two small wood logs burning on their grill.  Turns out the sensor was faulty, but the jelly like fire prevention fluid being thrown about the room like a Peter North film on steroids didn’t stop the evening’s meal – Poli’s team recovered quite adroitly and put on service as normal.

Your friendly neighborhood Ghost will be in attendance this evening to try as much of Chef Poli’s food as humanly possible and will report back on the time had.  Keep your eyes peeled soon for the Ghost’s big interview feature with Chef Poli as well.  It’s gonna be a good read.
