The task is to create three radio commercials. The brand names were Mister Sparky Electric, Benjamin Franklin “ The Punctual Plumber,” and One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning. RockSolid chose Bret as their project manager, and Tenacity thought Summer was their best bet.
The execs are a bit straight laced. They don’t want any plumber jokes. They seem to want to play it strictly pc. This will definitely present a challenge for RockSolid. They are a fun loving bunch and they really want to push the envelope.
Tenacity comes up with some pretty good stuff. They pack a little too much information into a short amount of commercial space. The best thing they did was use Cyndi’s voice in the ad’s. Cyndi was struggling with her voice for a little while, but she got it together and did a great job. Curtis tried to warn the ladies that they were going overboard with the whole information thing. Summer and Holly insisted on doing it their way. The execs liked Cyndi’s voice, but they weren’t very impressed with the ads.
RockSolid had a lot of fun while working this project. Bret wanted an ad that said that people “crack” a lot of jokes about plumbers. Sharon and Maria didn’t think it was a good idea because the execs were dead set against that type of humor. In the end they did it Bret’s way. They came up with some very original material. The execs were disappointed in the whole “crack” issue, but in the end they preferred Rocksolid’s performance.
So who will be fired? It comes down to Summer, Cyndi, or Curtis. Donald wasn’t going to fire Cyndi. After all, she was the only bright spot in the whole thing. Curtis and Summer are both a little too nice to defend themselves. In the end Summer the project manager had to go. It’s a shame because I thought she was an honest and fair player. We wish her well.
I had the opportunity to take part in a conference call featuring Summer. I did not ask her a question because most of it was already covered. She did tell us that she’s not much of a fighter and she doesn’t like to hurt anyone. At the same time, she is very competitive and hated the feeling of being fired. She still can’t figure out way they lost and she really enjoyed working with everyone. She thought Cyndi was a bit hard to deal with, but she loved her anyway. She is still friendly with Holly and Bret. She wishes Bret well, as do we all.
Stay tuned next week.
