The theme was music of The Beatles. I was a bit worried. What will these marginally talented young singers do to some of the best songs ever written? I must admit I was surprised.
Young Aaron Kelly took the stage first to sing “The Long and Winding Road”, which to me is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Aaron did a fair job, but not great. The judges were not impressed.
Katie Stevens did a terrific job on vocals when she sang “Let It Be.” Kara said she showed more confidence this time. Simon said he heard a country flavor. HUH? Whatever, the truth is, this girl can sing.
Michael Lynche also known as “Big Mike”, gave us “Eleanor Rigby.” I loved the way he did it. The judges had mixed opinions.
Whenever Crystal Bowersox takes the stage, we expect great things. She came through again. She took on an old favorite, “Come Together.” She made the song her own. She was nothing short of perfect. Ellen said that she is running out of ways to praise this talented girl. The other judges were impressed as well.
Lee DeWyze seemed more at ease this week as he sang “Hey Jude.” Lee has the type of voice that works well with any song. He had a bit of a rough start with this one, but it still sounded good. I see this guy getting better with time. He surprised us with a bagpipe player at the end of the song. Ellen and Simon thought this was amusing and maybe a little over the top.
What can I say about Casey, Tim, Siobhan, and Andrew? Casey continues to be cute. Tim is actually improving and he’s still adorable. Siobhan is an original and Andrew seems like a good guy.
When the results show comes around, Ryan promises us a surprise. This made me a bit nervous. A surprise to me would mean the elimination of either Crystal or Lee. This didn’t seem likely, but after last season’s shocker when Kris Allen beat out the more talented Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey, anything could happen. So ya, I was a little worried.
The girls were safe. The guys were divided into two groups of three. The bottom three turned out to be Mike, Aaron, and Andrew. Here comes the surprise…Mike got the fewest votes. Really? Considering the two guys who were standing with him, this was a real shock.
Anyway, Mike got to sing for the save. The judges only have one save. They must use it before the top five are selected. They decided to save Mike. I knew they would. After all, who else is worth saving? It is unlikely that Crystal or Lee will be voted out anytime soon, and the rest really aren’t worth saving.
Tune in next week.
