“A Christmas Carol” Tops Weekend Box-Office

Robert Zemeckis’ A Christmas Carol topped the weekend box-office, generating $31 million.  The $200 million budgeted film would seem to have come in well under industry expectations.  Quite honestly, the first weekend of November seems way too early for a Christmas-themed film.  Not to mention a film based on source material that’s been done to death over the years.  Also, I don’t understand Zemeckis’ obsession with this film method of taking actors and turning them into animation.  I’d like to see the guy try and make another “real” film again.

Coming in a distant second is the Michael Jackson concert film This Is It with $14 million (for a total of nearly $58 million), followed by the new George Clooney starrer The Men Who Stare At Goats with a little over $13.3 million, Milla Jovovich starrer The Fourth Kind with $12.5 million and the mega-hit Paranormal Activity in 5th place with $8.6 million (for a total of $97.4 million – stunning for a film that cost about $15,000).
