Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats – “Meet the Meatbats”

After years of as the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers as well as his recent success with the super group Chickenfoot, Chad Smith will now release an album of his own under the moniker Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats.

Working with friends Jeff Kollman (guitar), Ed Roth (keyboards) and Kevin Chown (bass), Smith’s solo entity will come out September 15th and is entitled Meet the Meatbats.

Chad Smith’s Bombastic Meatbats – “Need Strange”

The Bombastic Meatbats are brash, funky and far more subtle than you probably would imagine.  Second track, “The Battle For Ventura Boulevard” in particular is a little slice of cool jazz heaven and things get really funky on the track “Death Match”.

The songs were said to have been written in just a few days at Smith’s Malibu pool house – dubbed “The Tiki Room”.  Meet the Meatbats feels as relaxed as the environments in which it was written and is a casual, freewheeling sort of record that lifts the spirits and rattles the cobwebs of the soul.  Get loose, it says.  Get funky, it commands.  Get down, it demands.  I suggest you obey.
