Rock & Roll Ghost got a chance invite to the Hotel S ‘n S in Chicago the other night to see The Viper & His Famous Orchestra perform for the first time in seven years. This small, intimate show was but a warm-up to their concert today at noon at Chicago’s Millennium Park as part of the 2009 Great Performers of Illinois Festival.
The Viper and His Famous Orchestra is Ryan Jerving, Riley Broach, Rob Henn, Victor Cortez, Kenneth Rainey and, Edward Burch (who flew in from Austin, TX for the gigs this weekend with his trusted suitcase and mini-brooms). Burch also performed two solo sets at the Hotel S ‘n S show on Friday, doing killer renditions of “Photograph”, the song he originally recorded with the late, lamented Jay Bennett, as well as a fan request of ELO’s “Telephone Line”.
Burch will be performing solo during the middle portion of The Viper’s set and many special guests are rumored to be joining the 3 hour extravaganza (former Wilco member Leroy Bach was one of Friday).
