The Wee Hairy Beasties!Performing at Old Town School Of Folk Music on Saturday, October 25thGary and Laura Maurer Concert Hall :: 4544 N Lincoln Ave – Chicago, ILShow Time: 11amTicket Cost: $12 General Public/$11 Old Town School Members/$12 Seniors & Children
The Wee Hairy Beasties’ first concert was at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. The band was under the mistaken impression they would be playing to the animals, so all their songs were about animals. The children that showed up seemed to enjoy the show a great deal as well, so a CD was concocted. The resulting Beastie music on Animal Crackers (below are 4 MP3s for your or your childrens’ listening pleasure) is mostly for kids, but if used wisely, shouldn’t bug the adults either.
The Beasties are played by Jon Langford of the Mekons and the Waco Brothers (Cyril the Karaoke Squirrel), singer extraordinaire Kelly Hogan (Marjorie the Singing Bee), Mekons singer Sally Timms (Monkey Double Dippey) and Devil in a Woodpile. They united in the belief that kid’s music need not be unlistenable. Their dance-with-ants-in-your-pants blend of back porch blues, hoppity country and wiggly old timey swing is bound to please any animal, child or adult within earshot.
