Last night’s Duran Duran concert at the Rosemont Theatre was a truly unique & special evening for Mrs. Ghost & I. But that news will be saved for the review that will be up tomorrow. The real news is the surprise appearance by Chicago’s own Billy Corgan, leader of the Smashing Pumpkins at the show. Although there was one guy behind me that appeared to know, Kreskin – like, that Corgan was going to be there as he kept shouting out “Billy Corgan” and “Smashing Pumpkins” before the band even came back for their encore of “The Chauffeur” off of their iconic album Rio.
Corgan, in a long-sleeve zebra-striped shirt and a “Mao-ist-style” hat, laid down a seering solo accompanied by Duran Duran lead singer Simon LeBon on ocarina. Corgan said not a word, just waved to the crowd at the end and hugged bassist John Taylor.
A truly magnificent cap to a most memorable evening.
More tomorrow…
I was there and it really was a treat to see Billy. I am a big fan of SP. When he came out, my sister and I just knew it was him, having seen SP and Zwan in the past.
What a great concert, all around. Simon really knows how to serve it up. Fabulous show.
